Self-Discovery Through Short Videos: A Creative Exploration
This series of video exercises will help you explore and answer the question "Who Am I?" by using your own voice, creativity, and surroundings. Each exercise will encourage deeper reflection while allowing you to express yourself visually.
-
Exercise: Record a one-minute video introducing yourself without using labels (name, job title, roles like "parent" or "student").
Guiding Prompts:
How do you feel today?
What are three things that make you unique?
What excites or inspires you right now?
Reflection: Watch your video.
Did you express yourself freely?
Was anything surprising about what you shared?
Without judgement, reflect upon how you might connect to the person you see in the video, as someone you are meeting for the first time.
-
Exercise: Film short clips of your daily activities, focusing on moments that feel meaningful or fulfilling.
Ideas to Capture:
A place where you feel most at home.
An object that holds deep personal value.
A small routine that brings you joy.
Reflection: Compile these clips into a short montage. What patterns emerge? What do these moments reveal about what matters most to you?
-
Exercise: Record a video message to yourself one year from now. Speak as if you're offering encouragement or advice.
Guiding Prompts:
What do I hope to have achieved in a year?
What challenges am I currently facing, and how do I want to overcome them?
What do I want my future self to remember about who I am today
Reflection: Save this video and set a reminder to watch it in a year. How does this exercise shape your current understanding of yourself? Be objective.
-
Exercise: Create a split-screen video where one side shows you speaking your thoughts out loud, while the other side captures silent moments of self-reflection (staring out a window, walking in nature, drawing, etc.).
Guiding Prompts:
What do I present to the world versus what I feel inside?
When do I feel most aligned with my true self
Reflection: Do you notice any gaps between your inner and outer expressions? What helps you feel more authentic?

-
Exercise: Select three personal objects that represent key parts of who you are. Record a short video explaining their significance.
Ideas:
A book that shaped your thinking.
An item that connects to your heritage or personal history.
A tool or piece of art that represents your passion.
Reflection: What do these objects reveal about your journey, passions, and identity?
-
Exercise: Ask three people who know you well to record a short video describing how they see you.
Guiding Questions:
What words describe me best?
What strengths or qualities stand out about me?
What do they think Iām meant to do in life
Reflection: Compare their answers with your own self-perception. What aligns? What surprises you?
