Frequently Asked Questions

  • Every month, we gather for connection, curiosity, and discovery through a mix of authentic relating games, improv-inspired activities, guided conversations, and playful social experiments.

Think of it as a cross between a meaningful conversation, a community gathering, and a playground for curious folks. Some activities are lighthearted and fun. Others invite reflection and deeper connection. No two events are exactly the same.

  • Not at all.

While we borrow some exercises from the world of improvisation, the goal isn't to be funny, perform, or put anyone on the spot. The activities are designed to help participants become more present, responsive, and connected to themselves and others.

If you've never taken an improv class, you're in excellent company.

  • Many of our participants identify as introverts. This was built with you in mind!

This event isn't about being the loudest person in the room. It's about being authentic. Some activities involve pairs, small groups, or whole-group interactions, but you're always encouraged to participate at a level that feels right for you.

In fact, some of the most meaningful moments often come from thoughtful observation, curiosity, and genuine listening.

  • Then you're probably doing it right.

Ordinarily Unusual is built around the idea that growth, connection, and discovery often live just beyond our comfort zones. That said, we believe there's a big difference between productive discomfort and feeling unsafe.

You'll never be forced to share more than you'd like, participate in an activity that doesn't feel right, or engage in physical contact without consent. You're always in charge of your own experience.

  • People who are curious.

Some come looking to meet new people. Some want deeper conversations. Some are seeking community. Some simply want a fun and meaningful way to spend an evening.

You might find artists, professionals, students, entrepreneurs, caregivers, teachers, retirees, and people who don't fit neatly into any category at all.

The common thread isn't age, profession, or background….

It's a willingness to show up with an open mind and wonder what might happen.

  • Just yourself.

Wear comfortable clothes, bring a willingness to be curious, and leave your expectations at the door. There's no homework, no performance, and no special skills required.

Everything you need for the evening is already coming with you.
